President Rodrigo Roa Duterte also known as “Digong” or “Rody” or “Tatay” is the incumbent 16th President of the Philippines. He assumed office on June 30, 2016 at the age of 71. Duterte is a lawyer and previously served as a Vice-Mayor and eventually as Mayor of Davao City .
Duterte is known for his “War on Drugs” anti-drugs campaign. He also supports the restoration of capital punishment in the Philippines for drug related crimes. Duterte also advocates an independent foreign policy for the Philippines in support of the provisions of the Philippine Constitution.
Duterte’s candid “tough talk” has earned him solid supporters in the Philippines. His down to earth ways has made people regard him as a “populist” and as a “nationalist”.
